The Stadsschouwburg Groningen is located on Turfsingel 86 just outside the city centre and close to UMCG.

The Stadsschouwburg in Groningen, designated as a national monument in 1994, is an important theater for the city and surrounding areas. It was designed by H.P. Vogel and F.W. Van Gendt, based on an earlier design for Arnhem. During construction in the late 19th century, some modern amenities were omitted due to budget constraints. After its opening in 1883, the theater quickly gained popularity, despite ongoing adjustments and renovations. In the 1970s, the building was temporarily closed and faced the threat of demolition, but it was saved thanks to renovations in the 1980s. Since then, the theater has undergone several renovations, most recently in 2015-2016, ensuring the preservation of the building for the future.
