Welcome to Groningen, host city of CORLAS 2026

Vigorous, authentic and unspoiled. This is Groningen: a city bursting with energy. Surrounded by countryside where the silence embraces you like an old friend. Step into a different world and enjoy Groningen to the fullest.

There’s so much more to explore around the corner; Groningen features so many undiscovered gems. See works of art in unexpected places in the streets, lovely boutiques and small-scale high-quality restaurants very close to the main shopping streets. Walk a few steps further and venture into an almshouse to spend some quiet time alone. Enjoy a cold glass of beer at a local pub and learn more about Groningen culture. Who knows, maybe that friendly city resident sitting next to you has some tips for places to see and things to do.

Things to do in Groningen

1. Martini Toren

Over the past 500 years, the Martinitoren has endured fire, lightning, and nearly collapsed. Battles have been fought, yet the tower remains steadfast. Standing 97 meters tall, it continues to be the highest building in the city. Climb the tower to connect with a piece of living history and enjoy breathtaking views.

2. Groninger Museum

Since its founding in 1994, the Groninger Museum has been a centerpiece of modern architecture and a frequent subject of conversation. This makes it worth a visit on its own. Immerse yourself in the full experience of the diverse and fascinating collection, along with the innovative and occasionally provocative temporary exhibitions.

3. The Dutch Wadden

Do you think the Wadden Sea is only about the West Frisian Islands? You might be right in a literal sense, but there’s so much more to discover. You don’t need to travel to the islands to enjoy the Wadden Sea region. The coast of the Wadden Sea UNESCO World Heritage site offers plenty to explore and enjoy.
